Why "Chaparrera"?

Named for the vaqueros' leather chaps

Chaparreras are the heavy leather chaps South Texas vaqueros wore to work cattle through mesquite, blackbrush and prickly pear. American cowboys picked up the idea from them, and the batwing chaps shown here grew out of that same tradition. The ranch has been worked the same way for four generations: early mornings, good horses and respect for the brush. Today we share it with hunters.
