What it keeps
Herd management software without the learning curve
Everything a cow-calf operation writes in a tally book, plus the reminders and math you'd rather not do by hand.
Herd records and ear tag search
Ear tag, breed, sex, birth date, pasture, dam and registration number. Type an ear tag, or say it out loud, to pull up any animal with its history and what it needs next.
Vaccine and deworming reminders
Load a cow-calf schedule by stage: birth, branding, weaning, replacement heifers, pre-breeding, pre-calving and fall. Set your calving season and weaning age, and reminders are timed to your herd.
Treatments and withdrawal dates
Log a treatment for one animal, a whole pasture or the herd as a group. Mainbeam starts the withdrawal clock and shows the date it ends, so you know what can be sold.
Breeding and the calving book
Record bred dates and preg checks, then record each calf from its mother in a few taps: birth date, sex, birth weight, calving ease and sire. The calf joins the herd with its reminders already set.
Weights, gain and 205-day weights
Record birth, weaning, yearling and sale weights one at a time, or paste a whole pen from Excel or a scale printout. Mainbeam works out average daily gain and 205-day adjusted weaning weights.
Sales, expenses and profit per head
Log feed, hay, minerals, vet bills, fuel, repairs and trucking next to your cattle sales after commission. See net profit for the year and per head.
Medicine shelf with dose help
Keep track of the dewormers, vaccines and antibiotics on hand. Enter the label dose and withdrawal days once, and Mainbeam suggests the dose and warns you when a product runs low.
Pastures, work days and crew
Head counts by pasture, a calendar of work days, a list of what's due today read out loud, and crew access so your hands see only what you allow.

I set up your ranch in Mainbeam and email you an invite. Sign in on your phone, put the app on your home screen, and work through four steps: add your animals (one at a time or from a spreadsheet), load the cow-calf care schedule and set your calving season, stock your medicine shelf from the labels on your bottles, and add your pastures. Is there a free cattle record keeping app?
Yes. Cattle Free costs nothing for up to 50 active head. It covers herd records, care reminders on a cow-calf vaccine and deworming schedule, a treatment log with withdrawal dates, breeding, work days, pastures and cattle sales.
How much is Cattle Pro?
$8 a month, or $79 a year. Every new cattle ranch gets its first 30 days of Cattle Pro free, and nothing you enter is lost if you go back to Cattle Free.
Does it work without cell service?
Yes. Mainbeam keeps working in the pasture with no signal and syncs when you're back in range. Saying an ear tag out loud and loading photos need signal, so type the tag instead when you're out of range.
Can I bring in my herd from a spreadsheet?
Yes, with Cattle Pro. Download the blank template, then paste your herd list from Excel or Google Sheets or choose a .csv file. You can also add animals one at a time.
Does it track withdrawal times?
Yes. When you log a treatment from your medicine shelf, Mainbeam starts the withdrawal clock and shows the date the withdrawal ends on that animal.
Can my ranch hands use it?
Yes. Cattle Pro includes crew access. Add hands by email and give them cattle access. Only the owner and the crew you allow can see the herd records.
We run cattle and sell hunts. Can one app do both?
Yes. The Ranch plan ($39 a month) includes Cattle Pro and Mainbeam Booking for hunts, and warns you when cattle work lands on a day hunters are booked.
Are the care reminders a vet's plan?
No. They're built on a spring-calving cow-calf schedule for North Texas as a starting point. Go over them with your large-animal veterinarian and follow every product label. You can change, delete or add care types to match your vet's plan.
